Kraus-Anderson’s Mike Smoczyk Elected to USGBC, Minnesota Chapter, Board of Directors
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 2012) – Mike Smoczyk, Kraus-Anderson’s director of education, has been elected to the board of directors for the Minnesota Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
USGBC is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable building design and construction. With more than 560 members, the Minnesota Chapter has grown to become a leading regional catalyst for the acceptance and adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies and standards.
Smoczyk recently served as the chapter’s chair of the Green Schools Committee and helped to develop the Minnesota Green Schools Coalition, which has brought together the leadership of numerous school organizations concerned with improving the efficiency and health of the state’s school buildings.

Prior to joining Kraus-Anderson in 2007, Smoczyk was the director of career and technical education for Northeast Metro Intermediate School District 916 in White Bear Lake, Minn., where he provided leadership and supervision for over 1,300 high school students at the Technical Center located at Century Community and Technical College.
Smoczyk received his M.E.D. in Vocational Education from the University of Minnesota and his B.S. Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He has also earned certifications as a K-12 principal and school superintendent at the University of Minnesota.
