Kraus-Anderson completes safety initiative with zero injuries during CityPlace Phase 2 construction in Woodbury
WOODBURY, Minn. (January 2017) – Kraus-Anderson Construction Company (KA), one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest commercial general contractors and construction managers, has completed an extensive Chase Level III partnership program for CityPlace Phase 2- SE Retail project, located at 8500 State Farm Way in Woodbury. KA completed the construction with zero recordable or lost time injuries.
The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) implemented a major safety-initiative in 2003 to reduce the number of injuries, illnesses and fatalities at participant construction industry employers. The partnership was revised in 2012 and the initiative — Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) Minnesota — was jointly agreed by Associated General Contractors of Minnesota (AGC) and Minnesota OSHA.
CHASE recognizes contractors for their safety programs and performance, while reflecting current industry best practices. Chase Level III is the peak level for industry leaders with comprehensive safety and health programs.
Phase 2 of the City Place development contains two buildings. The first building is 100,000 square feet and includes Whole Foods, Nordstrom Rack and La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings. The second is the 7,500-square-foot Building E. The work consisted of exterior block/brick, structural steel, slab on grade, structural studs, sheet rock, window glass, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and finishes. Construction started September 14, 2015 and was completed September 2, 2016.
The project used 26 subcontractors on site, including approximately 96 personnel that worked during the entire project. The total number of hours worked on site was 33,078 hours, plus 4,000 hours spent training on safety and health topics, and 53 safety and health orientations.
The CHASE initiative promotes the importance of providing a safe, healthful work environment in construction and working relationship among project owners and construction workers. CHASE also aims to increase the number of construction contractors that implement effective safety and health programs, and provide effective safety and health training for management, supervisors and employees.
CityPlace is being developed by Florida-based Elion Partners and Minnesota’s Kraus-Anderson.
