Gov. Tim Walz appoints Kraus-Anderson’s Gary Benson to MHEFA
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 2019) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has appointed Kraus-Anderson’s Gary Benson to the board of the Minnesota Higher Education Facilities Authority (MHEFA). Benson, KA’s director of project planning and development, will serve his eighth term at the post, having also been appointed by three previous Minnesota governors. He has been elected to serve as secretary for the current year; and has previously served as both chair and vice chair.
The MHEFA issues revenue bonds to assist private Minnesota colleges and universities with funding construction on their campuses. Since its creation in 1971, more than $2.8 billion has been issued for capital projects and refinancing.
In addition, Benson has been re-appointed to his ninth term with the Northeast Metro 916 Education Foundation. He will serve as the foundation’s vice president for the coming year.
The 916 Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps the students, teachers and member districts of Northeast Metro 916 excel in programs that are not funded by public tax revenues. The foundation has supported the district for more than 25 years, and over the last five years has awarded more than a half a million dollars in scholarships and grants for students and teachers.
Benson is a member of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators, Minnesota Association of School Business Officials and Minnesota School Boards Association. He received his B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Augsburg College and his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
