Kraus-Anderson selected to build $93.9 million Hudson High School and Middle School
HUDSON, Wis. (August 2016) – Kraus-Anderson Construction Company (KA), one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest commercial general contractors and construction managers, has been selected to remodel and expand the high school and middle school for the Hudson School District in Hudson, Wis.
Designed by Bray Architects, the $93.9 million project features a two-story classroom addition and gymnasium at the middle school; and additions and renovations to the high school, including seating, lighting and sound upgrades to the auditorium, and new athletic stadium.
“We are honored to have been chosen to build these schools in Hudson,” said Gary Zifko, Kraus-Anderson’s project manager and Hudson resident. “The expansion will greatly enhance Hudson schools and become an even bigger asset for the community.”
Construction on the middle school will begin this fall and will continue while school is in session. The project is expected to be completed in June of 2017 in time for the school year. Kraus-Anderson has deep experience building and renovating schools and other facilities that must remain operational during construction. For example, the company works on hospitals with patients that must remain stabilized and highly sensitive equipment that cannot be moved.
“As we proceed to work on the Hudson schools — while students, teachers and staff are at work – it will continue to be our highest priority to put safety and security first, with as little disruption as possible,” said Zifko.
Starting in April of 2017, Kraus-Anderson will begin work on the high school, which is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2019.
Hudson School District Superintendent Dr. Nick Ouellette spoke of the reasons behind the Board of Education’s decision to select Kraus-Anderson.
“We have chosen Kraus-Anderson because of their deep experience with projects of this scale in addition to having performed a thorough reference check that indicated a high level of satisfaction of the company’s work,” said Ouellette. “The number of school districts that are repeat KA clients is impressive and speaks volumes as to the quality of their work. We couldn’t be more excited to have KA on board to help us deliver the promises we have made to the community.”
Located at 1300 Carmichael Road, Hudson Middle School serves approximately 1,300 students in grades 6-8. Hudson High School, located at 1501 Vine Street, combines a comprehensive curriculum model with two STEM and health care-focused academies. The high school serves approximately 1,800 students in grades 9-12.
Kraus-Anderson remains one of the region’s leading construction managers for education and is currently ranked 6th in the nation in the construction of K-12 facilities by Building Design and Construction magazine. The company has completed more than $1 billion in K-12 projects in the past five years.
