Allen Zaffke is the winner of the Kraus-Anderson Construction Company Mission/Vision Award for January 2015.
Allen is a project superintendent and works out of the Minneapolis office. He was nominated by John Solberg, vice president and project manager at the Minneapolis office. His nomination reads:
“I nominate Allen Zaffke for his work on the University of Minnesota Housing project, UTEC, now known as The Marshall. Allen had a “never quit” attitude on the project and often worked long days to ensure that the project stayed on schedule despite our tight schedule. That became even more difficult due to tough winter conditions. He had an uncanny ability to work out details while still staying focused on the overall project direction.
Allen managed hundreds of people at a time, yet he was very respectful and fair to everyone he talked to. He would stop, listen and then try to help the individual or group of workers solve their problem no matter what was going on around him. He pressed for quality of attitude and of workmanship on a daily basis. Allen’s effective use of technology to coordinate the job helped him clearly communicate the information quickly and efficiently to all trades persons.
Allen was a role model to others exemplifying effort, professionalism, quality and teamwork. His daily work ethic demonstrated all four of KA’s core values: integrity, commitment, teamwork and valuing people. It has been my privilege to work with Allen Zaffke on The Marshall building.”
