Cabela’s Opens in Sun Prairie, WI
Ever since direct marketing giant Cabela’s launched its nationwide retail expansion in Owatonna, Minnesota in 1998, Kraus-Anderson has logged a lot of miles for the client. The contractor has managed dozens of Cabela’s store projects around the country. Cabela’s new Sun Prairie store marks a new milestone in what is usually a long-distance relationship.
“It’s always exciting being on the Cabela’s team,” says Tom Roepke, vice president and director of operations for Kraus-Anderson’s regional office in McFarland.
“But this one is like playing the homecoming game.”
The store opened recently in the Prairie Lakes Shopping Center, just a few miles from KA’s offices.
Known as The World’s Foremost Outfitter, Cabela’s is like Disneyland for hunters, hikers, fishermen and campers. The 86,000 s.f. Sun Prairie store is branded with Cabela’s distinctive log construction, stonework, wood siding and green metal roof exterior. The interior reflects Cabela’s next-generation format, surrounding customers in an outdoor-like experience with museum-quality displays, aquarium and its signature, indoor mountain replica. In addition to thousands of quality outdoor products, store highlights include a gun library, Bargain Cave, indoor archery range, deli and fudge shop.
From its offices in McFarland, Kraus-Anderson maintains four crews to handle the nearly continual construction projects for Cabela’s nationwide; throughout the Midwest and from Billings, Montana to Waco, Texas to Cheektowaga, New York. Projects run the gamut from minor alterations to total conversions and new store construction.
“We’ve even gone back into many of the stores we originally built more than a decade ago to renovate and remodel,” said Roepke.
Sun Prairie joins Ashwaubenon, Richfield and Prairie duChien as the fourth Cabela’s destination in Wisconsin, all built by Kraus-Anderson. Other recent projects include the newly-opened Berlin, Massachusetts Cabela’s; and upcoming construction in Woodbury, New York, which will be KA’s second New York project for the client.
On the road again.
