KA Block Update January 2017
As winter makes itself at home in Minnesota, progress continues on the KA Block in downtown Minneapolis. The full-block redevelopment now under construction comprises KA’s new office headquarters; a 17-story apartment building, an 8-story hotel, a Finnovation Center with Finnegans microbrewery, event center and offices; plus two levels of underground parking.
Q: What progress is being made in January?
CHAD REMPE, KA BLOCK PROJECT MANAGER: Office architectural precast continues and will be complete in January in preparation for office exterior glazing to being in February. Office MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) rough-in and interior framing continues to make great progress. Drywall and elevator install scheduled to begin in February. The residential structure continues to add a floor every 10 working days +/- and in anticipated to be poured out in April. Exterior enclosure work is close behind the structure with exterior framing in progress on levels 5 & 6, window installation on levels 4 & 5, and masonry work scheduled to begin in February. Q: What adjustments, if any, have been made for weather conditions?
CHAD REMPE: With the exception of recent snow and bitter cold limiting our ability to complete office roofing and residential concrete deck pours, all other aspects of the Work have been able to continue with the aid of temporary heat and enclosure.
Q: What is the timing of enclosure of the entire KA building?
CHAD REMPE: Office exterior enclosure currently scheduled to be complete in April.
Q: What work is happening on the poured floors of the apartment building, HQ?
CHAD REMPE: MEP rough-in and interior framing is well underway on levels 1-5.
Q: How is the underground parking structure being utilized for the temporary use of the subcontractors?
CHAD REMPE: A warming house has been provided on level P1 for workers to warm up/dry off and take breaks. Space is temporarily enclosed with poly and temporary heaters keep the space at approximately 70 degrees.
