KA Block Welcomes The Elliot Hotel
The Elliot is the new 8-story luxury hotel that will be located at 5th Avenue at 9th Street in downtown Minneapolis. The Elliot, planned to be a 165-unit Autograph Collection® hotel by Marriott®, is part of the new comprehensive, mixed-use block development that will also include Kraus-Anderson’s new home office, a 17-story H.Q. residential tower and Finnegan’s microbrewery.
Designed by ESG Architects, The Elliot will feature a destination restaurant, bar and meeting rooms, and will be connected to Finnegan’s microbrewery. Wilkinson Corporation (WC) is developing the hotel in cooperation with KA. WC is an international commercial real estate investment firm committed to excellence in local community developments.
“We believe in the value of the Elliot Park Neighborhood and are excited to be part of this master plan redevelopment in East Town, Minneapolis,” said Russell Wilkinson, chairman and founder of Wilkinson Corporation. “The Elliot is one of several development projects we are working on in Minnesota.”
The Elliot is designed to be a member of Marriott’s 4-Diamond Autograph Collection, which includes some of the finest and most distinctive high-end boutique resort hotels in the world. Autograph Collection hotels are independent properties, featuring unique design, inherent craft and a direct connection the to community.

Located in Elliot Park, the new hotel is designed to fit into the fabric of the existing historic neighborhood. An attractive brick exterior will include metal clad bays and large windows, a transparent first floor, and a new streetscape with high-quality landscaping and large canopy trees that will be inviting to guests, visitors and pedestrians.
A hotel guest drop-off for automobiles and the highly visible restaurant will both have dedicated entrances off 5th Avenue. An expansive lobby that will connect to a mid-block courtyard will also have an additional drop-off location.
Comprehensive block development
Kraus-Anderson teamed with ESG Architects to develop the master plan for the entire block. Guided by the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association and the Elliot Park Neighborhood group, the plan provides significant enhancements for the City and the neighborhood, and for KA employees and business partners. It also addresses the Portland Corridor initiative that focuses on the neighborhood’s economic, aesthetic, historic and environmental needs, including Elliot Park’s master plan with considerations for housing and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes.
In April 2016, KA began construction on its new five-story, 100,000 s.f. headquarters, which consolidates its Twin Cities operations under one roof in a new, build-to-suit LEED facility. The new headquarters will house approximately 300 employees, doubling the current downtown staff with room for future expansion on the site. Designed by Pope Architects, planned amenities include a fitness center, educational training center, rooftop deck, cafeteria, formal and informal meeting areas, and an appealing, well-landscaped exterior. The plan also includes two levels of underground parking to serve KA’s office employees.
KA has already completed two construction milestones on the block development. In October, the company topped off its headquarters building and began vertical construction of H.Q., the residential tower.
