KA takes home three MREJ Awards
Kraus-Anderson was honored to take home Minnesota Real Estate Journal Awards for two construction projects, in addition to being named General Contractor of the Year at the 2019 gala. The MREJ Awards honor top people, projects and companies in the construction, architecture and real estate industries. Finnegans Brewery won in the Interior Design category, and Fraser Woodbury won in the Medical Property category.
Finnegans – Interior Design – Housing/Hospitality/Restaurants & Retail
Finnegans House is part of the comprehensive KA Block that also houses Elliot Park Hotel, HQ Apartments, and KA’s corporate headquarters. The 13,000-square-foot building includes a taproom, event space, and FINNovation Lab, which provides office space and resources for young social entrepreneurs. Finnegans has been a major face in the Minneapolis craft beer scene for nearly 20 years, and the construction of the four-story Finnegans House finally provides a brewery and taproom space for the public and a number of opportunities for local social entrepreneurs, which has longtime been part of Finnegans’ business model. The Finnegans taproom space is customized throughout, with attention to detail in every corner. The custom bar woodwork and sculptures, designed by a local artist, bring an inviting atmosphere and unique character to the taproom. Finnegans has always been about community impact, and this innovative, multi-functional building allows the company to grow in one cohesive space. From the details that bring the building to life, to the functionality of a multi-faceted company under one roof, Finnegans House is a staple of innovation and boldness for the Minneapolis community.
Fraser Woodbury – Medical Property – East and Greater Minnesota
Fraser Woodbury is a 26,000-square-foot mental health and rehabilitation clinic that serves children with special needs. The clinic offers comprehensive autism and mental health evaluations, diagnostic and treatment services, autism and mental health day treatment, case management, applied behavioral analysis, and speech, occupational and physical therapy. Designed by Pope Architects, the sensory-friendly environment includes skylights in corridors, a fenced in play area, acoustic panels and insulation to minimize noise distraction, and enhanced door security for added safety. Unique to Fraser, families have the benefit of receiving multiple complementary services in one building. Research shows that treatment outcomes drastically improve when all therapies happen in one place. This model allows children to spend more time in direct treatment, decreases medical and travel costs for families and improves treatment outcomes.
Kraus-Anderson – General Contractor of the Year
Kraus-Anderson had the honor to work with several hundred clients throughout the Upper Midwest on over 500 projects in 2018, both large and small. Jobsite safety has always been our top priority, and we are proud that our safety focus resulted in no lost time records in 2018. We had the honor to work on 70 K-12 projects in 25 school districts across Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. KA is quickly becoming a leader in the K-12 market, and we are proactively working with districts throughout the Midwest to meet their facility needs. It was also the first full year in our new corporate headquarters in downtown Minneapolis. The consolidation of three KA office locations under one roof in a high-tech, amenities-rich work environment named KA to the Star Tribune’s Top 150 Workplaces in Minnesota, ranking #18 in midsize companies. Not only did the building win Xcel Energy’s 2018 High Performance Building Award for its cost-effective sustainability, but the open workspaces provide a more collaborative environment to better suit our clients’ needs. The entire KA Block was transformed from a 30,000 square foot office building and a sea of surface parking to a 761,000 mixed-use block with housing, corporate offices, a hotel, brewery and creative co-working spaces. KA is currently ranked #18 by Engineering New Record as a general contractor in the Midwest. Our commitment to top-level service, investment in the local community, and continued growth as an industry leader gave us great success in 2018, and we will build on that momentum for years to come.
