The crown sitting atop the 33-story CenturyLink building in downtown Minneapolis has been part of the skyline for decades. While its outdated microwave technology was no longer in use and deteriorating, dismantling the structure presented some unique challenges. Because of the risk of fire, blow torches couldn’t be used to remove the steel. Instead, workers hand cut the steel pieces using sawzalls. Kraus-Anderson completed the removal of the 80-foot-tall steel structure in six months.
