Kraus-Anderson completed an expansion and remodel to the Rochester International Airport, which included upgrading the main terminal lobby, relocating the ticket counter area, and expanding the U.S. Customs area to 20,000 square feet. The addition increases efficiencies for international travelers to meet the current safety, security and space requirements.
The airport needed to remain operational at all times, which was a significant challenge for the project team, particularly in the TSA area. For example, the team had to decommission, relocate, and recommission the TSA screening area in one overnight so it was operational for the first flight in the morning. Every part of the airport was touched during the construction process, including some of the most sensitive areas with strict restrictions for passenger safety to keep them operational. Communication and coordination among airport staff, TSA, car rental companies, and contractors was critical to the project’s success.
