Kraus-Anderson forms joint partnership with Hunt Construction to pursue new Vikings stadium
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 7, 2013) – Kraus-Anderson Construction Company (KA), one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest commercial general contractors and construction managers, has formed a joint venture with the Indianapolis office of Hunt Construction Group to pursue the new Minnesota Vikings stadium known as The People’s Stadium project.
The joint venture (known as “Kraus-Anderson/Hunt, a joint venture in Association with Reiling Construction & Eden Resources”) uniquely brings together significant NFL stadium construction expertise, award-winning metro and state construction management, and an equity employment plan that brings women and minorities into the construction workforce and subcontractor mix.
“This team brings expertise based on the most relevant NFL stadium experience and construction nationwide, providing the best opportunity for achieving a retractable roof and operable wall stadium,” said Kenneth Johnson, executive vice president of Hunt Construction Group.
Established in 1897, Kraus-Anderson Construction (www.www.krausanderson.com) is one of the nation’s premier commercial general contractors and construction managers. KA also has been the largest provider of building construction services in the metro from 1999-2011, averaging $448 million per year over that period. Extensive KA-constructed experience in the Twin Cities includes projects managed at the MSP International Airport in excess of $1.5 billion since 1991.
Hunt Construction Group is the largest builder of professional sports venues and kinetic structures in the Americas. Hunt’s national NFL stadium credentials include multiple retractable roof facilities. The company’s team members have completed six operable roof stadiums, and three fixed-roof stadiums. For nearly 70 years, Hunt (www.huntconstructiongroup.com) has managed construction projects ranging from sports facilities, to hospitals, to research and development facilities. Engineering News-Record ranks Hunt as the nation’s number-one sports builder. NFL project experience includes Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts; University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals; and Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
“We are excited and proud to work together with Hunt, Reiling and Eden Resources to pursue Minnesota’s newest landmark, The People’s Stadium,” said Alan Gerhardt, Kraus-Anderson Construction COO. “For 116 years, we have been headquartered in the East Downtown metro, five blocks from the stadium site. We have a vested interest in the vitality of the city and state, and the success of the project.”
The joint venture combines forces with Reiling Construction and Eden Resources, which will provide construction management services through a mentor/protégé relationship. Kraus-Anderson’s relationship with Reiling is through the Construction Partnering Program of the Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA). Training programs will be provided through KA University designed to remove barriers to inclusion.
KA is the only contractor competing for The People’s Stadium that has won the American Subcontractors Association-Minnesota “T.O.P.S. Award,” recognizing Teamwork, Opportunity and Partnering with Subcontractors. In addition, KA’s team will place 99.5 percent of The People’s Stadium jobs with the local labor force, and 84 percent of the total subcontracted work will be performed by local resources.
