Kraus-Anderson selected to manage facility improvements for Bloomington schools
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 2013) – Bloomington Public Schools has selected Kraus-Anderson, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest commercial general contractors and construction managers, to help manage its upcoming facility improvements. The deferred maintenance work is part of a multi-year alternative facility funding contract.
The district has in the past performed about $3 million a year in deferred maintenance on such projects as HVAC, energy efficiency upgrades and improvements consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Late last year, the district approved $15 million per year of the alternative facility funding work and secured St. Paul-based Wold Architects and Engineers to help the district identify a construction manager.
Wold is designing the major deferred maintenance work, which will be performed during the summer months. The three major construction projects to be completed in 2013 include:
1. Jefferson High School – major electrical upgrades, lighting, feeders and new bleachers.
2. Westwood Elementary – mechanical updates, including new boiler/chiller, ductwork; bathroom remodels, ceilings, lighting and energy efficient windows.
3. Olson Middle School – replace fire alarm system.
KA continues to lead the field of regional education construction projects and is currently ranked 10th in the nation in the construction of K-12 facilities by Building Design and Construction magazine.
