Redefining Rural Care on the Shores of Lake Superior
Designed around a patient-centered model, the 21,862-square-foot St. Luke’s Chequamegon Clinic in Ashland, Wisconsin, brings healthcare closer—both in proximity and experience—for the local community. The new layout prioritizes ease of access, with level site entry, close-to-door therapy services, and a design that supports future service expansion. The clinic offers a wide range of care, including family medicine, general and neurosurgery, OB/GYN, orthopedics, sports medicine, and physical therapy. It was built with long-term community health needs in mind, positioning it to accommodate future diagnostic and urgent care services. Sustainability and sensitivity to the site were key. Located directly on Lake Superior’s shoreline, the project incorporated immediate erosion control measures, stormwater retention systems, and environmentally responsible construction practices. Prefabricated wall panels and in-floor heating enhanced efficiency, while new site utilities—including water, sewer, electric, and fiber—ensured the infrastructure matched the facility’s forward-thinking approach. Blending thoughtful design with patient-first planning, this clinic sets a new standard for rural healthcare delivery.
