City of Wayzata Breaks Ground on the Panoway Lakewalk & Community Docks

July 3, 2023

Panoway on Wayzata Bay is an initiative to restore, protect and enhance a treasured asset for our community and broader region: Wayzata’s downtown lakefront. The multi-phase project will transform the public shoreline on Lake Minnetonka, enhancing the lakefront experience and preserving it for years to come.

Panoway grew out of the work of the Lake Effect Initiative, which spent nearly a decade evaluating the needs of the community by soliciting input from thousands of people through years of public and private events, meetings, and conversations.

Now, after 10+ years of passion, planning, and much community engagement, construction on the 1,200-foot-long Panoway Lakewalk has finally commenced! The Lakewalk is Phase 2 in a three-phased project. The $11 Mil Lakewalk which is being funded through a combination of City Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Dollars, a grant from the State of Minnesota, as well as donated funds from The Wayzata Conservancy, will stretch along the shoreline of Lake Minnetonka from the Depot docks to the Broadway docks. New and expanded community docks will replace the existing docks as a part of Phase 2 as well. Kraus Anderson, the City’s Construction Manager for the project, will begin to mobilize a construction area on Wayzata Bay at the end of this month.

On Wednesday, July 12th at 1:00 p.m., the City of Wayzata and The Wayzata Conservancy will celebrate this major milestone with a groundbreaking at Depot Park at 402 Lake Street East. Speakers at this event will include Mayor Johanna Mouton, Blake Sandvold, Chair of The Wayzata Conservancy, Scott Jordan, Principal of Civitas Inc., and Bob Janssen, Construction Executive of Kraus Anderson.
