Firefighters for Healing Teaming with Kraus-Anderson and HQ Apartments to Support Firefighters, Burn and Trauma Survivors
June 18, 2018
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 15, 2018) – Kraus-Anderson and Firefighters for Healing are teaming up to support firefighters, burn and trauma survivors by providing three apartment units at the new HQ Apartments in Minneapolis. These conveniently located units are just 2 blocks from Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) will be made available free of charge to burn and trauma survivors as well as firefighters from around the state who are receiving medical care in the Twin Cities.
Over the past five years Firefighters for Healing has worked with community partners to provide hotel accommodations for burn survivors and their families. While this is a good solution, in some long term cases, it is not a home away from home that helps aide in a patient’s recovery.
Firefighters for Healing hopes to support the community through these apartments in 3 ways:
- Provide accommodations for the FAMILIES/relatives of survivors traveling from a distance so they have a comfortable and familiar place to stay
- Provide accommodations for SURVIVORS so they are close to the outpatient services to support their transition into their new normal level of activity/mobility before heading home
- Provide accommodations for any FIREFIGHTER from anywhere in the state of Minnesota who is receiving care in the Twin Cities for any reason
Firefighters for Healing is seeking help from the community to fully furnish these three apartments. To help in this effort an Amazon Wish List has been set up. If you’d like to help just head to Amazon.com and look for the “Account & Lists” tab, click on “Lists and Registries” and search for the “Firefighters for Healing” list. Your donation will be direct shipped to the foundation. Once the item (and requested quantity of that item) has been purchased, the item will no longer appear on our wish list. We hope to have these healing units ready for occupancy by early July. Financial donations can be made at Firefighters for Healing or by mail: PO Box 374, Champlin, MN 55316.

Firefighters for Healing was established in 2010 after Minneapolis firefighter Jake LaFerriere suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns in a backdraft explosion while battling a house fire. It was at the hospital while being treated for his burns that Jake met young children who were undergoing the same painful treatment for their injuries. He wanted to do more. Jake founded Firefighters for Healing a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the mission of supporting children and burn survivors in ways insurance companies and caretakers are unable to.
