Senior Living Community adding new health center, independent living apartment homes, and various services and amenities

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (August 2019) – Kraus-Anderson (KA) has begun a $114.5 million expansion of Friendship Village, a senior living campus located at 8100 Highwood Drive in Bloomington, Minn. The renovation will include a three-story health center, three-story skilled nursing building and five-story residential living building.

Owned by Lifespace Communities, the project will add a new independent living building with 93 apartments alongside a variety of services and amenities. Additionally, the 1.75-acre expansion will include a new health center building with a state-of-the-art physical and occupational therapy gym, memory care suites, and assisted living apartments.

Designed by Northbrook, Ill.-based SAS Architects, renovations will also be made to Friendship Village’s current health center to redesign all skilled nursing and rehab suites. These additions and updates coincide with an expected increase in demand for senior living options locally. According to the Metropolitan Council, more than 20% of all Twin City residents will be age 65 or older by 2040.

Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.

KA has been working with Friendship Village since the mid-1990s on the expansion of its Bloomington campus to maximize the land on the site.

KA has served as the general contractor for numerous Minnesota senior living communities, including Ebenezer Tower Apartments in Minneapolis, Engel Haus in Albertville, Good Samaritan in International Falls, Guardian Angels Riverview Landing in Otsego, Shaller Sholom Home East Campus in St. Paul, and Arbors at Ridges and Valley Ridge Senior Housing in Burnsville.
