November 25, 2024
Iowa industry veteran Bryan Michael has been named Director of Operations
Kraus-Anderson (KA), one of the nation’s premier general contractors and construction managers, has opened a new regional office in Des Moines, Iowa. The move complements the company’s aggressive expansion, which includes new regional offices that opened this year in Fargo, N.D. and Phoenix, Ariz.
KA’s experience in Iowa dates back to 1981, and it has featured 184 projects totaling more than $343 million. Some of KA’s clients have included Lumen, Lowes, Ameriprise Financial Services, Best Buy, Edgewater Senior Living Community, Target, and Golf Galaxy.
KA’s facilities assessment team is currently working with Hegg Health in Rock Valley to provide a comprehensive analysis of its building systems and structures. In addition, the company has begun strategic facility planning for Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley, Iowa.
Bryan Michael will serve as director of operations in KA’s Iowa office. He is a seasoned construction and development professional with over 20 years of experience in the Iowa market, most recently serving as co-owner of Des Moines-based PDC Partners, a provider of development and construction services. Michael received his B.S. in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University and was named to the Des Moines Business Records Forty under 40 in 2012.
“Expanding in Iowa will bolster KA’s presence in the Upper Midwest,” said Rich Jacobson, Kraus-Anderson’s chief operating officer. “We will continue to bring our experience in healthcare, K-12 education, housing, data centers, and government services, as well as other major building sectors to Iowa’s burgeoning marketplace, where we have built solid relationships for more than 40 years.”
KA’s new Des Moines office will be located at 100 Court Ave. The turn-of-the-century property has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
More about the historic 100 Court Ave. property
Built in 1901, the Chicago-style brick warehouse originally served as a wholesale grocery firm. Interior structural support features wood columns and exterior load-bearing walls are 40 inches thick at the base and 30 inches thick at the top. The building also has a tall first-floor base and windows on the second through sixth floors, grouped within a three-story arch and topped with a short cornice. The Iowa State Register also notes the building had a hardwood trough that ran from the sixth floor to the main floor to transport articles to loading tracks, which connected the warehouse with the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad. The building has been renovated several times since 2008.
