Kraus-Anderson’s regional office moves into new digs in the historic Duluth National Bank building
June 12, 2024
For 25 years, the Duluth regional office of Kraus-Anderson has been making history by shaping the northern landscape. From historic renovations to new state-of-the-art buildings, the company is celebrating its milestone anniversary by moving into the historic Duluth National Bank building located at 2000 W. Superior Street.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. (Media tours will take place following the 11:00 a.m. ribbon cutting.)
Designed by Pope Design Group, the new office blends historical features with a contemporary office design. The former bank vault, for example, has been repurposed as a 200 square-foot conference room; and the original main entry marble floor, soaring columns with detailed caps and elaborate beams, and the bank vault door have been restored.
The space was designed to evoke a sense of gravitas with high ceilings and gigantic windows.
“The amount of natural light pouring through the windows connects the occupants to the outside and provides users with a quality of light that artificial fixtures cannot duplicate,” said Eric Young, project manager with Pope Design Group. “Maintaining the sense of awe that the space creates was imperative while creating useable spaces with a new purpose.”
The construction team uncovered a beautiful wood slat ceiling below a mezzanine that was incorporated into the design. The ceiling serves as a warm transition element from the open office area to the back-of-house functions of the breakroom and conference rooms.
