Western Technical College
Western Technical College project involved the construction of six new, addition, and remodel projects in La Crosse. The projects included a Parking Ramp, Diesel Technology Center, Horticulture Education Center, Integrated Technology Center, John B. Coleman Center, and Roy E. Kumm Center. The largest of the projects is the renovation and expansion of the current Applied Technology Center to create a comprehensive state-of-the-art Integrated Technology Center. The new technology center allows several industrial programs to share classroom and lab space, which were originally spread over six locations on campus. The project was a complete building renovation, ground floor expansion, and the addition of a third and fourth floor, allowing the industrial technologies programs to consolidate to a single location, creating an advanced manufacturing center. The new building is a “living laboratory” for students. The work focused on science and health classrooms and labs to meet growing healthcare workforce needs, providing larger lecture classrooms and lab space. This remodel reconfigures space to allow for increased utilization without expanding the building. The upgrades included daylighting, fire sprinkler system, lighting, power and closed-captioned television to improve energy efficiency, safety and security. This project aslo increases the natural light with the addition of cut-in windows. The project attained LEED Gold certification.
