Mind Your P’s and Q’s of PPE

Few activities are more exciting or inspiring than visiting a construction site. At the same time, jobsites contain potential hazards, including heavy equipment, uneven surfaces, sharp tools and materials, dust, fumes and hazardous materials.

Safety is a top priority on every Kraus-Anderson project. That includes protecting everyone on the jobsite at all times: workers, project owners, consultants, meeting attendees and visitors.

Kraus-Anderson requires 100 percent use of personal protective equipment, or PPE, on its jobsites. There are no exceptions.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s construction standard, 29 CFR 1926.28, states:

“The employer is responsible for requiring the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment in all operations where there is an exposure to hazardous conditions or where this part indicates the need for using such equipment to reduce the hazards to the employees.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s personal protective equipment guidance provides additional information about workplace PPE requirements and hazard protection.

What Should You Wear When Visiting a Construction Site?

If you are visiting a Kraus-Anderson jobsite for work, a meeting, a tour, an owner visit or another purpose, please dress appropriately. Visitors arriving from an office environment may need to bring or change into suitable clothing before the visit.

Required attire includes:

• Long pants. Skirts, shorts and capris are not permitted.
• Covered shoes. Open-toe shoes and high heels are not permitted.
• Hard hat.
• Safety glasses.
• Reflective vest.

The jobsite superintendent can provide a hard hat, safety glasses and reflective vest if needed. Please check in at the jobsite trailer when you arrive for equipment and additional instructions.
