Tom Michels Wins Mission Vision Award
Tom Michels is the winner of the KA Construction Company Safety Mission/Vision Award for first quarter 2016.
Tom is a project superintendent for the Bemidji office. He was nominated by Steve Trudeau, senior project manager, Bemidji office, for his work on Windom Area Hospital. Steve writes:
“Tom does a fantastic job and embraces safety as a ‘culture of accountability’ rather than a task to be checked off a list. He is unwavering in managing field safety, seamlessly integrating KA standards into the day-to-day process at the site.
Dedicated to getting everyone home each night in the same (or better) condition than they arrived, Tom communicates and enforces the KA safety expectations with each KA employee and all subcontractors.
‘Tom always keeps safety in the forefront and when challenged,’ adds Jim Bergren, general superintendent, ‘his response is direct and informative and he is not afraid to hand out verbal/written warnings when warranted.’
His process and commitment are so respected that he will often receive pictures of violators on his cell phone from other subcontractors’ field personnel.
Tom is always willing to take action when safety issues arise with a People First mentality in keeping with our Core Value of Value People.
Jake Leoni, safety coordinator adds, ‘He always looks out for the best interests of KA and our business partners by maintaining a safe jobsite for all and holding employees accountable for utilizing safe work practices.'”
