Eddie Gillen, project superintendent from the MAC office, won the April 2024 Core Values Award. Tim Sprung submitted the nomination. It reads:
“Eddie is being nominated for his dedication and commitment to helping the TSA’s testing and integration subcontractors on the MAC’s West CBIS TSA Recapitalization project. This is a federally funded project that is replacing several Explosive Detection Scanners (EDS) that are part of the Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) at MSP Airport. Eddie has taken on much of the coordination of lining up access, security escorts and lay down areas for SIG Aviation, TSA’s subcontractor responsible for removal and delivery of their equipment, as well as Smiths Detection, TSA’s Integration subcontractor.

This often required him to remain on site well past 10:00pm while still returning to the MAC early each morning to run the other numerous projects he’s overseeing. His efforts have not gone unnoticed by the construction team as he is regularly singled out and personally thanked by the TSA’s construction teams during our weekly progress meetings for helping them out.
An example of a situation that came up during this project:
An Airline and their baggage handling partner were complaining last week that there were issues with the baggage handling system, programming was not functioning correctly, etc. and too many bags were getting incorrectly diverted, lost in the system, and missing their flights. They had concerns that the cause of the issues were due to the ongoing construction projects. As noted below Eddie took the initiative to organize the contractor’s team and come into work early at 5:00 am and again on a Saturday morning to help coordinate the MAC’s contingency plan for moving and portering luggage around to the correct locations on the conveyor bag belt system when the automated BHS system is not functioning properly.
As it turned out none of the issues with the BHS system were caused by our construction projects. When the issues were first brought to KA’s attention last week Thursday Eddie didn’t question, deflect, or assume blame to the airline, but instead did what was needed to be done to make sure the airport operations ran smoothly on Friday and over the weekend and people’s luggage got onto the correct planes on time.
His dedication continues to demonstrate the value that KA’s personnel and core values bring to our client, the MAC, every day.”
