NAIOP Award of Excellence for TCO Performance Center
TCO Performance Center, the Minnesota Vikings’ world-class training facility in Eagan, Minnesota, is recipient of a 2018 Award of Excellence in the Special Purpose category from NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. The project is one of 13 outstanding developments recognized with an Award of Excellence for achievement in project development, function and design, architectural integrity, market feasibility, sustainable attributes, and unique project challenges.
Designed by Crawford Architects, the complex includes a 192,000 s.f. headquarters adjoined with a 93,000 s.f. practice facility; and a 6,500-seat outdoor stadium expandable to 10,000 seats, all constructed on land previously owned by Northwest Airlines. The site’s six football fields include four with natural grass and two with synthetic turf. The practice facility’s 98-roof accommodates punting practice. Also included are groundskeeper, storage and maintenance buildings.
Sustainable Elements
Registered for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the project’s sustainable attributes include include daylighting in training and office facilities; use of regional materials, and materials comprising +20% recycled content. In addition, 75% of all construction waste was recycled. Fixtures were selected to reduce water use by 30%. Optimized energy performance shows an improvement of 18% above ASHRAE 90.1 standards. Low emitting materials were implemented for improved air quality. And consolidation of facilities under one roof reduces the need for travel.
