Kraus-Anderson completes new $30 million elementary school addition in Pipestone, Minn., combining all of the district’s public school students under one roof
Construction company worked closely with district to pass successful referendum in 2019
Rochester, Minn. (September 2021) –Kraus-Anderson (KA) has completed a new $30 million elementary school in Pipestone, Minn. The new 85,940-square-foot PK-5 school is an addition to the current middle school and high school building, consolidating all 1,150 of the district’s public school students into a single building, including 500 elementary school students who previously were split between two aging facilities.
In 2019, voters approved the district bond referendum project, which features a new gymnasium capable of simultaneously hosting three separate activities, classrooms, flex learning areas and offices for school staff and administration. Designed by ISG Architects, the two-story building also includes a central visitor entrance providing school greater security, and an updated and expanded kitchen and cafeteria to accommodate the influx of new students. The project also reconfigured parking on the school campus.
Pipestone Elementary is one of dozens of major K-12 construction projects KA will work on this year during its “Summer Sprint,” a critical, concentrated time during the summer months when school is not in session and when crews can perform work that ranges from new school construction to upgrades to deferred maintenance projects.
KA continues to lead the field of regional education construction projects and is currently ranked 12th in the nation in the construction of K-12 facilities by Building Design and Construction magazine. Over the past five years, KA has completed over $1 billion in K-12 projects. KA’s comprehensive school construction services include facility analysis and budget approaches, leading to informed and successful referendum initiatives.
